Colchester Natural History Museum – Live snake encounters: Snakey Sue with her volunteers and 20/30 snakes will be edutaining the public at the museum from 11am to 4pm on Wednesday 27th August.
This is a very long time for the snakes to be out and handled by the public; the temperature of snakes bodies in general do not need to be over 27c, the human body is 37c, ten degrees higher, snakes draw heat up into their bodies from whatever source is available therefore we humans heat them up quickly and they can become overheated with continual handling, by taking many snakes we can swap them around throughout the day to let them cool down and give them a break.
Snakey Sue would normally not allow the snakes out with the public for more than 3hrs but hoping that this day will bring us many more bookings in Colchester and surrounding areas, which will help keep the sanctuaries finances healthy.

UPDATE: We took 24 snakes and there were 5 of us attending, Charlie the Australian Carpet Python made his debut, we have been working on him since he came into the sanctuary as a baby in April 12 – he is getting over his nerves and will soon be a lovely snake to take out on events.
Lots of people overcame their fears and many children learnt lots and had fun handling the snakes, there was a large group of children and their carers from a holiday club – the carers managed to overcome their fears so we could have a possible future booking to edutain that group.
