Snakey Sue’s Snake Encounters specialise in taking snakes out to meet the public and the presentations are based hugely on education but with lots of fun elements so that they’re not boring, this is the same for all age groups we wouldn’t want adults to get bored either.
We notice that other animal edutainers often take a number of different animals; because we rescue peoples unwanted pets we aren’t able to care for many different kinds of animal financially or with the space we have available. We like to give our rescues as much space as possible to make their captive lives comfortable as we can.
We believe that there is a lot to learn about one animal, in fact we know there is as Sue could talk for an hour and still not tell everything she knows about snakes. If many different animals are taken not much can be taught about any one of them, it may seem more exciting, we have in the past been asked if we bring any other animals i.e. fish, rats – this tells us immediately that much needs to be learned about one animal for the lay person. It would be impossible to take fish without a large tank of water and rats are the snakes dinner so there could be an extremely difficult situation with that option.
As Sue has been taking snakes out into the public arena since 1996 and has learned lots about snakes and much about people, it’s always best to trust the professional when they inform you about how to run the encounters.
