Children’s Snake Parties

Children’s Snake Parties: “Just Snakes” at a party may not seem enough when you can find lots of animal encounter parties bringing all manner of animals.

But in 90mins how much can you learn about each animal?

It also gives snake phobic people the chance to say no to snakes, which means the huge hole of information about reptiles continues to grow and the misinformation continues.

Our parties are specialised and have been that way since 1996!!

Children enjoy meeting snakes and finding out about them, children are actually interested in being educated (with fun attached).

In 90mins we cannot tell everything we know about snakes, but we can impart the most important information.

Snakes enjoy human interaction particularly if people are calm and kind (this makes for good education when dealing with any living being).

Snakes are actually therapeutic to interact with, in fact the vagus nerve is said to be stimulated by the movement of the snake on the base our neck which is probably the reason we feel so much calmer when we allow them to wander around our bodies.

Snakey Sue’s special words for everyone to remember before she allows them to handle the snakes in her care are: KIND, GENTLE and CALM

She believes if everyone interacted with all living beings using this criteria the world would be a better place to live in.

Snake Encounter Birthday parties

Snake encounter birthday parties – lots of fun for children and adults often meeting snakes often for the first time.

People are frequently quite amazed at what a fascinating experience it is to meet a snake, so much negative press instils unnecessary fear into people.

Our educational presentations teach a huge amount about snakes for the first 20mins. and that helps the process of eliminating fear before the snakes are introduced.

Many people mistakenly believe that all snakes are venomous when very few types of snake are and we don’t keep any of those. When people find out that our snakes are constrictors, they then imagine they are going to strangle us, snakes do not strangle their prey they constrict which means they need to wrap their whole body around their prey and they will usually only constrict prey items of the correct size, we are too large to be prey items, besides it seems that snakes aren’t the unintelligent creatures that people think they are, for instance they know who I am – their carer and will often reach out to come back to me when someone else is holding them. They also get to know the volunteers and will like to be with them.

We teach people how to interact with the snakes and not to allow them to wrap tightly around the neck as they may wrap too tightly because they do not want to fall or are picking up nervous energy from the person which in turn can create nervous tension within the snake.

Snakes are very aware of the energy of the person attempting to handle them, if a person is nervous they may pick up on that energy and not want to stay, calm people find it easy to handle a snake and the snake will find it soothing to be with such a person.

They are most tolerant of being handled by children as you can see in the photos below:

Snake birthday parties

At our snake birthday parties we bring approximately 8/10 snakes, we specialise in snakes because we run a snake sanctuary for peoples unwanted pet snakes and although other animal entertainers may bring different reptiles and animals we feel that much can be learned about one type of animal and not so much when confronted with many different types.

If the birthday child is willing, they get to hold as many as snakes possible for their Birthday photo.

Here are some photos of some very brave birthday children having fun with our snakes:

Snake Encounters at family parties

Snake Encounters at family parties: One of the  best parties are family parties of all age groups, there are plenty of adults around to help with the handling of the snakes keep an eye on what the children are getting up to.

We find that adults get as much joy out of handling snakes as children do.

Outdoors is great but when the weather is hot our best place to be is under trees as they give proper shade unlike gazebos which hold the heat.

When we are outdoors in the Summer we take bowls for water so that we can cool the snakes down, the  children are amazed when they see the snakes in the water.

We can also allow certain types of snakes to lay on the grass and sense real ground although it’s important to keep touching them otherwise they can feel alone and frightened in a strange place.

We run parties for all age groups – here are some photographs of people having fun handling snakes outdoors and indoors.

Snake cakes

Snake Cakes: it’s so interesting when Mums make a suitable cake for a “Snake Party” some weird and wonderful cakes have passed by my camera  over the years.

Sadly many of the photos were lost on an old  hard drive some years ago.

Here are some of the latest though.

The first has a couple of extra tongues and is rather straight  – lol

The second is huge with a victoria sponge as a very happy snake head 🙂

The third is rather smart and professional looking

The fourth was extremely well thought out, a great pattern made with choccy buttons.

The fifth was made for “Snakey Sue’s”  birthday 🙂  it’s a tiny one made just of marzipan.

The sixth is big and green lol

Snakes for Hire:  We take all type of bookings to run our educational presentations:

  • Childrens parties
  • Schools
  • Kids holiday clubs
  • Fun days and Fetes
  • Special rates for scouts clubs
  • Team Building
  • Society meetings – talk demonstrations

We have 65 snakes of varying sizes and breeds to take out for:

  • Photoshoots
  • Videos
  • TV shows
  • Club visits
  • Parties

A few of the snakes are suitable dancing partners for Snakey Sue and she has many beautiful costumes for snake dancing and meet and greet.

All payments for events are used to finance the running of the Sanctuary and the events help to keep the snakes socialised and stimulated.

Taking snakes out to meet the public has its challenges; snakes  cannot regulate their own temperatures and most people think that they like to be hot, but just like any animal or human no-one wants to be cooked  in the heat!!  Snakes need moderate warm temps to be in whilst working in fact a little cooler is better than hotter – heat kills more quickly than cold, between 20c and  27c is a reasonable  temperature.

When we handle the snakes we warm them with our body heat, in fact childrens hands are often very hot  and in the Summer months when we are at outside events we need to take water sprays and bath bowls to cool the snakes down and our best position to  be is under trees. When the outside temps are below 18c we need to be indoors as even the snakes that come from North America will attempt to hide under our clothes to keep warm, pockets, hoods, hats are all great places to warm up. In the Winter months  we put hot water bottles in their carry cases to keep them warm so often need a supply of warm water to top them up when we arrive and/or leave the venue.

It’s a shame we don’t get booked for more adult parties as snakes go down so well at them when we do, people just love chatting and chilling at parties with a friendly snake  wrapped around them 🙂

Below are some photos of people having fun with snakes at an adults birthday party.

Halloween party ideas – live snake encounters

Halloween party ideas – live snake encounters: Halloween isn’t really anything to do with snakes but because people still see them as a scary thing then we usually are booked for halloween, its fun for children and adults alike anyway so why not! the snakes aren’t really scary otherwise we wouldn’t be able to take them out to meet people at all 🙂

Below are a couple of photos from Halloween events one of Snakey Sue dressed up as a witch and one of a young chap who was definitely dressed and painted up in the spirit of the occasion.

Childrens Parties – Snake cakes

I had a huge  collection of photos of childrens parties snake cakes from the many  that we did in the past, sadly I lost them because of a malfunctioning computer 🙁

Recently though I have collected some more 🙂  Mums have great imaginations when it comes to cakes,  some are just wild!!

Childrens Snake Party in Colchester, Essex

We were very lucky to do a childrens snake party in Colchester, Essex the party came through an ad in NetMums.

It was young Owen’s party pictured right. Owen was more of a voyeur than a handler and he enjoyed learning much more about snakes than he already knew.

Mum and Dad learnt how to handle snakes too, everyone gets used to handling snakes by the end of the session.

Dad was unsure in beginning but soon enjoyed one of our Boas giving him a kiss – boas love to put there face on yours and climb up on your head.

A very special cake was created 🙂

Some more photos of the party, because all the other snakes were Boas and Pythons we were able to take Sunny the Florida Kingsnake out as seen in the photo with the lady in red trousers, he is a stunning snake and very friendly, hence the name Sunny:

Childrens Snake Party at Hackney N1

The snakes did their usual brilliant job of entertaining at this childrens snake party, not just the children at Bruno’s party, many of the adults had lots of fun too,  here’s a photo of his Mum – Kate

And here’s a photo of his Dad – Beanie, all of the snakes that we take to childrens parties are very child friendly and are used to being      handled by children – we never take any nervous snakes out to meet the public

.This little chap is holding a Kenyan Sand Boa we have a whole family of these snakes, Sandy and Kenny came to live in the Sanctuary 11yrs ago they were both 5/6yrs old, we have their daughters Becky and Susie who are 10yrs old and in 2011 Sandy and Kenny had some more babies and we found homes for most of them but have 5 babies now who have already been out and about relieving people of their fears, they are one of the cutest and smallest of snakes, they don’t move too fast and are very nice to handle so they help to calm people if they are at all worried about snakes. So many children and adults have overcome their fears by meeting the Kenyan Sand Boas.
